Chewton Glen owners to refurbish Cliveden House following acquisition

Cliveden House is set to be refurbished after Chewton Glen owners Ian and Richard Livingstone acquired the rights to operate the Berkshire hotel for an estimated £30m.

The five-star luxury hotel, owned by the National Trust, was formerly operated by collapsed hotel chain Von Essen, which reportedly went into administration last year owing Lloyds and Barclays £300m.

New Balance Olympic win for Definitive Events and Altitude 360

Sports footwear company New Balance is set to take over Altitude 360 – the private events space at the top of the Millbank Tower – for the whole of this year’s Olympic Games.

The venue has been secured for the company’s corporate entertaining via Manchester-based event management company Definitive Events, which will be managing New Balance’s entire programme for the Games.

London 2012 ticket resale website to reopen

January 15 – London 2012 this week plan to reopen official ticket resale website which has been suspended since January 6 because of problems.

Agents Ticketmaster had been trying to find a solution and London 2012 have said that solution has now been found, though organisers have not given specific day when that will happen nor details of the solution.

North-west venues “can’t wait two decades” for HS2

Leading venues in the north-west today called for the government to bring forward plans for the second phase of the HS2 rail link.

Plans were approved yesterday to build the rail line between London and Birmingham by 2026, possibly including a stop at the NEC.

A proposed second phase in 2032/33 would extend HS2 to Manchester and Leeds, with high-speed trains also running to just outside Liverpool.

Definitive plans office move following appointments

Definitive Events is to move to a bigger office in March following further expansion to its team.

The Manchester-based agency, which has a client base including New Balance and Indesit, has appointed Nina Callaghan as event manager. Callaghan joins from Universal World Events, where she spent three and a had years as account manager.

She will work on a variety of accounts and events across both Events and Sport divisions.

Definitive has made a number of appointments over the past year, expanding its team from two to five since the beginning of 2011.

Social media restricted for Olympic volunteers

The 70,000 volunteers for the London Games have been issued with guidelines that prevent them from sharing details of their experiences online, according to reports.

A document issued in the volunteer-only Games Maker section of the London 2012 website last week laid out rules for using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter during the Olympics.

London 2012 signs post-Games contracts
